Aneela started her F&F Clothing Apprenticeship with us this year and is the Merchandise Assistant for Ladies Casual Wovens. “Combining learning and working was the main thing that attracted me to this apprenticeship and especially as it included getting experience in both merchandising and buying areas. My typical week starts with understanding our sales performance from the previous week, continuing to improve our order processing system and working with my suppliers, buyers and merchandisers to get the product to our customers, I really enjoy building strong relationships with everyone. I’ve got the best team, they’re such a friendly and supportive group of people. I would definitely recommend this apprenticeship. If you've got a passion for fashion, you’re someone that likes making things happen and someone that wants to work in an exciting fast paced environment, do it!.” If you’re interested in starting a career in fashion and want to find out more about our F&F Clothing Apprenticeship and apply check out our website http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQhYd
As part of our partnership with The Prince’s Trust to provide opportunities to help young people develop their employability skills, we invited a group of students from Greenshaw school to take part in a World of Work experience in our new Heart building. Students had the chance to discover the wide range of opportunities available in our offices and stores. Students had lots of fun in our development kitchens too, they used their creative ideas and worked with our top chefs and product developers to create their own healthy meal for a family of 4 on a £6 budget. They absolutely blew us away with their passion to learn and great ideas. We then finished off the session by getting them to present their product to our judges where they were awarded a certificate. As part of the partnership, 9 colleagues across our business volunteered to support the students with their experience and they enjoyed it too. Well done Greenshaw school, we loved having you here on campus! #tesco #princestrust #volunteering #helpingyoungpeople #YouthCanDoIt

Amelia is in her second year of her Commercial Apprenticeship and is the Assistant Buyer for Kitchen Roll. She chats to us about her experience. "I was attracted to the Commercial Apprenticeship because I wanted a job, to earn money, learn new skills and I knew university life wasn’t for me. My weeks are really varied. At the start of the week I’ll be presenting category data to my stakeholders and at the end of the week I could be looking at new product development and negotiating costs. My highlight so far is a supplier visit to Thailand and Malaysia. It was really interesting to be on the other side of the world and learn about the end to end process of how your product is made. If anyone is thinking about applying to this apprenticeship, I would say, do it! It’s the best thing I’ve ever done and I’ve been given so many opportunities since I’ve started. I love my job!". This week Andy Gibson from Mindapples came along to our Heart building to run a 1 hour session with colleagues on “Change your habits”, part of our commitment to helping colleagues maintain a healthy mind. The session was about how anything we do regularly and intensively can become a habit. Most habits are useful, but some are not. We were shown how to retrain the mind and turn these habits to our advantage. In addition to Andy’s session, we already have 5 Mindapples e-learning modules available to all colleagues that have been accessed over 17,000 times!
