I was invited through mail, after applying on the amazon.jobs site. I had a telephone interview and then, invited to participate in a 4.5 hour face to face interview session with 4 different professionals, of totally different areas of the company.
As described in other reviews, the basic path of the interviews are the Leadership Principles, associated with your previous professional experiences. I read a lot of these interviews in Glassdoor and they were very helpful. If you ask me an advice, I would say to think of a professional situation where you had to act for each of the principles and try to remember what and how you did it and, if possible, the metrics. Well, that´s basically the same advice Amazon provides. Keep in mind tough that other behavioral and technical questions will also be there...
I´ve found most of the interviewers prepared to interpret and discuss further my answers and all of them made me feel really comfortable, eventhough the process as a whole is naturally tiresome.
I had to stay for an hour waiting because I arrived much earlier. During this time I had the opportunity of "feeling" the environment, of the people going in and out of the reception. I liked very much what I saw; make no mistake, it is a warehouse operation, though and repetitive, but I could sense an easiness that is not the usual way.
Before the interviews we had a walk about the warehouse facility; the person who directed the small group (we were 3) was very friendly and knew very well the process. Once again, that feeling of easiness, that made me sure it was a good place to work.
In the end, it was a very gratifying experience. I confess I thought there would be more technical questions, but I can see their point of view. They want people to join the team, to have the same spirit, state of mind and, of course, the professional experience. Overall I think it is an innovative way, for a company that has to grow fast and be innovative.
Maybe I am too excited or being naive (keep in mind I have more than 20 years of professional life), but I felt very inspired by the company. Should I be wrong, I will be the first one to comment in a few months...
