Best Company I've Ever Worked For

      Jul 30, 2022 - Senior Compliance Analyst
      Recommend

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - Very friendly atmosphere with even the highest levels of management very down to Earth. - Great opportunities to progress or even move between teams. - Management always willing to listen to problems and be flexible. - Since the acquisition by Visa the company has maintained its values.

      Cons

      - As a relatively new company compared to some, there can often be policy and procedure change which may require adaptation.

it has improved, keep on improving

Jul 30, 2022 - Senior Software Engineer in London, England

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      - since CTO has joined, there is a much more shared technical vision between teams. - business is looking good

      Cons

      - no team autonomy in choosing where to invest between tackling tech debt and new product features and CTO mandated choices - there is so much work to rebuild systems properly and not enough trust to let eng do that - principals engineers have not delivered anything yet and they have mostly been hired from outside, they are suggesting irrelevant stuff and don't seem interested in listening to other eng opinions - no transparency: decision are made behind closed doors and results are communicated eventually - no skip level one to ones

      Former Employee

Slowly morphing into the depths of corporate monotony, and lacking transparency

Jul 19, 2022 - Anonymous Employee in London, England
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Benefits package is very good. Flexible working/WFH has been rolled out in a seamless way. Good allowance for WFH equipment.

      Cons

A very heavy meeting culture, no balance between what could be said in an email vs dragging too many people into a meeting that did not need to happen. Very unclear progression structure across many areas, often more crucial departments are overlooked for those that are good at PR, but not actually benefiting the company in a greater way - basically, a select few. Some staff that have been with the company a while have been promoted into more senior level positions have become cold and egotistic towards other staff, when they were once friendly when part of the 'regular' workforce. The culture has changed from an engaging, fun and welcoming atmosphere to a 'Visa-Lite' corp - but the company still tries to pretend it has the startup culture. Many of the staff that added value, fun and diversity have left or are in the phase of leaving - mainly because of being overlooked, and then going on to get senior positions elsewhere, which the company tries to claim as a success. Certain departments have long been an 'Oxbridge only' majority, with one not even hiring any women until about 18 months ago. Hires for the last year or so are devoid of any real personality in the workplace, and fit the increasingly corporate mould. Major mounts of tech debt across nearly all functions, with engineers increasingly fed up. Exec level leadership has never been transparent and overall poor, although some have now left since the takeover, but many spent their time sharing social media links rather than knowing what their staff are doing or how they contribute. Pay is still under market rate in many, if not all departments despite the recent increase efforts. You can be expected to do multiple roles and not be compensated for it, and asking for support is often not taken seriously unless you fit the category of one of the favourites in a department. The training budget is mediocre at best, with no clear structure. Benefits and perks from Visa are still yet to be decided almost 7 months after the take over.

      Pros

Remote working - with the cost of living crisis / cost of fuel going up this is a god send. Remote working also supports equality Strong benefits package High quality staff who are pleasant to work with Business is growing (expansion into Australia as an example)

      Cons

As with many Fintechs it can be fast paced Remote working can feel isolating at times Recruitment process can drag on to long and needs to be streamlined

      Currencycloud Response

We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review of working at Currencycloud. As a remote first company, we don't expect people to come to the office often. However, we do encourage employees to try and get together locally with other Currencyclouders and have had meetups in Edinburgh and Leeds recently! We're always looking to improve our recruitment process. Please feel free to contact our Director of Talent, Adam Bolton with any suggestions you may have.

      Pros

      - Culture, the company looks after us - People, across departments everyone is helpful, engaged and ready to help newcomers out - Great benefits package incl. access to therapy - Loads of learning resources + mentorship programme

      Cons

      - Recent chaos after being acquired by Visa. New layers of management and too many new initiatives requiring action simultaneously. Some of this is growing pains though and will settle over time - Salaries aren't competitive enough
