Pros

Some great people work for Capco, when you need answers to questions, I found people were always willing to help, if they didn’t know what you’re looking for they would point you in the direction of someone who may know.

Cons

Some not so great people, looking to push you into client projects without disclosing full details and expectations which then turn out to be completely unsuitable, all to ensure they hit sales targets I expect. In 2 year period I saw a lot of growth, ending being ‘encouraged’ onto a 3 month sabbatical due to their current situation before finding a opportunity elsewhere externally (is it a coincidence it’s with one of their clients?). Also aware they are in process of offering voluntary redundancy too. Sounds like they grew too quick too soon. Client projects were uninteresting unless you were in with the right people and those opportunities were limited too. Performance split across Client and Internal work not necessarily rewarded unless smashing it in both areas. E.g. difficult clients meant year 1 client work wasn’t great but internally achieved alot but didn’t see anything from it. Year 2 projects involved better clients, again not interesting work but decent clients helped get past the boredom.

Capco Response

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed working with your Capco colleagues, however would like to provide clarity around some of your other points. We always aim to ensure that our people can select a role in line with their career aspirations, however on occasion, business and client demand mean that an individual may be placed in a role which does not perfectly align with their aspirations. In these instances, individuals are supported by their manager and coach to ensure that they are still able to develop within that role and to transition to a new role when possible. After a period of unprecedented levels of demand, the demand for consulting services has moderated somewhat due to the current economic climate. As a result, we have offered voluntary, short-term sabbaticals and voluntary redundancy to a limited number of employees in the UK. That being said, employee engagement remains high, and attrition has decreased. Regarding your comments on internal work, we have a Community framework which sets out how this is assessed, with a specific percentage of the performance assessment directly linked to Community. This ensures that contributions are recognised and rewarded. Coaching is an important part of our culture and performance management process, and if someone feels their coaching relationship isn’t working they are encouraged to speak up and seek support in identifying a new coach.

Pros

Varied client work — Different clients and project types, which keeps things interesting. Real project mobility — You can move between projects when you advocate for yourself (within reason). Approachable leadership — Senior leaders are open to conversations if you reach out. Good development resources — Plenty of training and growth opportunities if you take advantage of them. Strong teams — Colleagues are smart, capable, and great to work with. Entrepreneurial environment — New ideas are encouraged, and there’s room to take initiative.

Cons

Long hours vary by project — Like most any professional job, some engagements require extended hours for prolonged periods, but work–life balance really depends on the client and team. Additional internal responsibilities — Depending on level, there can be a significant amount of firm‑support work outside of client delivery. Domain alignment not guaranteed — You may not always be staffed on projects that match your domain expertise. Coaching alignment constraints — Coaching relationships are tied to domain, which limits flexibility in choosing formal mentors. Long engagements (sometimes) — Some projects run for long durations or through multiple extensions. It can provides stability but may reduce variety in client and project experience depending on what you’re looking for.
