Pros

Having worked at Evidera for over 4 years, the one thing that nobody can deny is scientific quality and expertise of the team members throughout the business. Although many people have left, there are still some high quality staff there. The scientific reputation of the business is strong and the salaries are among the best in the sector, although you can get more if you go to pharma. You will be able to learn a lot and grow from your time there, especially if you want to develop strong technical skills.

Cons

Over the years the culture became more and more toxic with a total disregard for employee wellbeing and human decency. Blame culture is not only rife, but is top down from the very top of the business. The targets set are totally unrealistic and senior leaders will happily throw anyone they can under the bus and shift the blame when it inevitably comes due to missing targets. Work life balance is non existent and you should expect to work long hours. Don't expect management to treat you like a human being, you're just there to make as much money for the business as possible.

Pros

You have the chance to work with smart people on interesting projects. I have worked at Evidera in the Value and Access Consulting department. In general, I have worked with competent people and I learnt a lot from working on different projects at different stages of the asset lifecycle. The company is good for a start as a new graduate, many smart people with strong scientific knowledge and consulting skills.

Cons

The reputation of Evidera is strong in Modelling and Patient-Reported Outcome but it is not established yet in Market Access Consulting. While Evidera overall is a quite diverse company, at the Value and Access Consulting department I found little diversity in the Senior Leadership team. White/British/Male is the common denominator of the Senior Leadership team and if you are a non-native English speaker you have few chances to get there… The team is not inclusive, I found smart colleagues but not friendly at all. Despite the official claims, work-life balance is far from ideal, you should expect to work long hours (often during evenings and sometimes at the weekend). Employees trying to reach their utilization targets will have to work overtime. Senior Leadership does not care much about the employees but more about profit margin and the clients. When you join the company, you need to be careful and do whatever is possible to please the senior staff, since they have a big influence on your performance review and your career progress. There is a poor culture of feedback, Senior Leadership can provide negative feedback about your performance without giving you any direct feedback. You might end up knowing that your performance in a project was negative a few months after the fact, receiving vague second-hand information… The integration of Evidera with PPD caused some discontent in the team because of new processes and more complexity. There are few external training opportunities. Most of the training is provided in house.

Pros

Suffering in numbers, at least you aren't alone...? Managed to forge some lifelong friendships that will endure (unlike the credibility and scientific standing of Evidera) Some interesting clients/sponsors and projects to inspire your great escape even further (the grass really is greener)

Cons

- Toxic environment - Zero work-life balance - Long working hours including weekends and sometimes during paid time off (2am analysis or report writing - tick) - Complete lack of consistency with salaries and promotion process - be prepared to work harder than your peers who are earning 10-15k more than you despite being at the same level (just because they held management to ransom and demanded a pay increase; individuals would regularly mention offers from other companies despite not having applied elsewhere...) - Terrible managers lacking basic training and communication skills - Lots of people in the organisation who 'talk the talk' - Zero recognition (managers will regularly rope junior staff into non-billable project work despite junior staff having unachievable targets to then claim the work as their own in senior management meetings so they can be titled "subject matter expert") - Poor communication from management and senior leaders
