It’s International Women's Month. But what does that really mean - beyond the social media posts, the events and the office cupcakes? (although yes - the cupcakes ARE great..) For us, it means celebrating the commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion that we live every day. 🚀 We’re proud that 60% of Depop’s executive leadership team identify as women - and that we’re one of the 17% of companies in the fashion industry who set public representation targets, proactively reporting and holding ourselves accountable to making measurable progress on both gender and ethnic diversity within our business. 🚀 We’re proud of our incredible female leaders, many of whom have been out and about this week sharing their experiences and expertise. If you can’t see it, you can’t be it - and having visible, diverse leadership helps us represent and serve our diverse community. 🚀 But most of all, we’re proud of the role our platform plays in breaking down the barriers to entry to fashion and entrepreneurship for millions of women across our markets. Globally, only 1 in 3 businesses are owned by women. But on Depop and other digital and social platforms, women are leading the charge - carving out careers on their own terms, disrupting the fashion industry, growing circular brands and monetising their passions. Thank you to our amazing community and our teams who make all this possible - and check out our Impact Goals at the link below for more on our DEI commitments.
Last week, Depop held an online webinar in collaboration with BYP Network featuring Depop's VP of Operations Danielle D'Lima, Senior People Partner Grace Gingo, CX Agent Aaron Boakye, and Lead Data Scientist Oduwa Edo-Osagie 🚀 The panel shared their personal journeys and insightful career stories with the BYP community, and offered invaluable perspectives on what it's like to work at Depop!
This month on Career Stories, we're featuring Oduwa Edo-Osagie, one of Depop's Lead Data Scientists. Follow this series, where we’ll hear from Depop folks at various stages of their career journey, as we shine a light on how they reached their version of success – and the people that helped them along the way.
Depop’s First Ever Hack Week! 160 employees across 20 teams joined together for Depop’s inaugural Hack Week in December. This week gave our employees an exciting opportunity to work on creative projects with individuals across every area of the business, diving into innovative ideas that don’t fit our usual planning process. At the end of the week, we saw the teams’ concepts in action with in-person live demos and presentations. Congratulations to team 3Depop (Joe Williams, Michael Stead and Jon Norman) who had the winning concept of 3D Listings, enabling sellers to upload 3D scans of their items!
Towards the end of 2023, Depop saw one of it's most exciting quarters! We debuted our first ever Trend Report, held our first ever Hack Week and launched 'Year on Depop'. 🚀 To kick start the year, we all came together at our London HQ where our monthly Vibes@5 was extra 'vibey' with an inspiring word from Depop's CEO, Kruti Patel Goyal and Depop's very own DJ Otis Waby on the decks. We cannot wait to celebrate more accomplishments like this in 2024. 💖
To kick off 2024 with a bang, Depop hosted an MLOps Meetup with Tecton, our trusted feature store provider! 🚀 Even in the freezing cold, it was amazing to see the London office buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. The night was filled with insightful talks from Nikos V. and Mitch W. exploring the tough lessons of establishing a feature store and the journey of developing a two-pass search infrastructure with an experiment-driven approach. Thanks to those who came out and we’re excited for more inspiring meetups and events this year 👏 📈
On Wednesday, Depop employees hosted a Barbie fundraiser at our London HQ, supporting Breast Cancer Now, a charity personally chosen by one of our Brilliant Engineers! Our London HQ and remote teams dressed in all shades of pink, uniting for this important cause. 💗 Thanks to all our Depop employees who participated and donated to a great cause! depop.com/emalolabella for the Barbie dungarees!
We recently hosted a BYPeers event at our London HQ where we spoke to the fashion community at BYP Network. BYPeers events are designed to connect the next generation of Black industry leaders with our internal network of innovators, and answer questions about Depop, our culture and our mission. We’re excited to continue this partnership and can’t wait for our next BYPeers event happening later this year!
Vibes@5 — our monthly IRL celebration — became Vibes@Pride at Depop HQ. Led by our LGBTQIA+ safe space, the evening included treats from our queer-owned vendors Kween Kream and LuvJus cocktails and a special performance from the talented Drag King, SemiColon. What an evening!
