Last week we celebrated our very own Digital Pride! We wanted to celebrate Pride because we have a shared responsibility to help move to a world free of discrimination. We recognise that the LGBTQ+ community often doesn't have the same level of support frameworks around them and that Pride is an important time when we all get together. Our LGBTQ+ Supporters Network hosted a variety of digital events for employees, hearing from the likes of Mermaids, MindOut - LGBTQ Mental Health Service, #GloucesterPride organisers + many more! Diversity is our superpower and at EDF we’re proud to be an inclusive employer. On behalf of everyone at EDF, we're wishing you a very Happy Pride! #Pride2021 #Pride #DigitalPride #BeYourself #EveryonesWelcome
Decommissioning Dungeness: Nuclear power station will need ‘hundreds of staff for decades’ - find out what happened when EDF invited ITV to our Dungeness power station in Kent.
The human swan has taken flight! We're wishing Sacha Dench and the #RoundBritainClimateChallenge team enormous luck as they embark on a world-first circumnavigation of mainland Britain. Sacha aka "The Human Swan" is flying a specially adapted electric paramotor from Glasgow to Snowdon stopping at some incredible sites along the way. A key part of the purpose of this challenge is to break a world record for the most people pledging climate action in one month. You can learn more about the challenge, follow Sacha's journey and how you can play your part by visiting our website:
Did you see us on ‘Building Britain's Biggest Nuclear Power Station’ on BBC Two this week? This new four-part series provides unique behind-the-scenes access, following the people who are working to meet the challenge of building Hinkley Point C, Britain's biggest nuclear power station. From engineers to welders and crane drivers to tunnellers, the series gives a fascinating insight into what it takes to build the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK. Catch episode one on BBC iPlayer now and tune in next Wednesday to watch episode two!
Covid testing has been a central part of how we at EDF have kept our power stations working throughout the pandemic. It has given us the confidence to continue producing the zero #carbon electricity the UK needs while at the same time protecting our staff. The CBI (Confederation of British Industry) asked us to explain a bit more about how we did what we've done and Principal Medical Officer Dr Sarah Jackson explained in this detailed piece:
Can Sacha beat two world records and show us how Britain is adapting to the #NetZero challenge? We're very excited to be supporting Sacha Dench and Conservation Without Borders for The Round Britain Climate Challenge starting around 20 May. The challenge will see Sacha, who is a UN Ambassador for the Convention on Migratory Species, fly 3000+ miles along the British coast in an electric-powered paramotor while attempting two Guinness World Records – the first and fastest flight around Britain in a paramotor, and securing the most pledges to act on climate change in one month. Join us in supporting Sacha on her amazing journey!

❓ Did you know, EDF was founded in 1946, and was the first producer of renewable electricity in Europe 🍃 ❗ Since then the amount of carbon emitted in the UK has increased by 725.27% 📈 To reach #NetZero carbon emissions by 2050 we need all of our electricity to be generated by zero carbon sources like wind, nuclear and solar - EDF is committed to helping the #UK achieve this.
Our Renewables team in Ireland has grown sixfold since this time last year. So to celebrate this year's St Patrick's Day, we've launched the latest two of our #WomenInRenewables blog series, featuring members of our Irish team: Senior Planning Project Manager, Aoife, and Anastasija, our Office Manager. Read their blogs to discover how they made it into the renewables industry and what advice they'd share with anyone wanting to do the same.
This week we're celebrating 45 years at both Hunterston B and Hinkley Point B power stations! These stations connected to the grid in 1976 and have supplied years of low carbon energy every since. Happy birthday!
At the end of 2020 our Hinkley Point C project achieved another key milestone!
