Santander UK has issued its first quarter 2022 results this morning – a first quarter that has continued the momentum built during 2021 with profit from continuing operations before tax increasing to £495m. This has been underpinned by another strong performance in the mortgage market. Our transformation programme continues to focus on digitalisation and meeting the changing needs of our customers. This is backed up by our resilient balance sheet and prudent approach to risk. As households across the country face rapidly increasing cost of living, we stand ready to support our customers and provide them with practical advice and tools to help them manage their money. We will continue to look at the impact that the rising cost of living is having on our customers so we can provide them with the right support and help them navigate their way through the challenges the country is facing.
This week we are joining Santander teams from across the Group for BeHealthy Week – a chance to get together to reflect on our health and see what more we can do to prioritise our wellbeing. We have a wealth of wellbeing tools and support for our teams at Santander which are available all year round. However, following the past two years we know that looking after our wellbeing is a real priority, so we’ll be hosting sessions and events all week and can’t wait to get everyone involved. #SantanderBeHealthy
We’re thrilled to welcome our new CEO Mike Regnier who joins Santander UK today. Mike Regnier said: “I am absolutely delighted to start my new role as CEO of Santander UK today. It is a bank with a real commitment to supporting people and businesses across the UK to prosper and I’m really looking forward to getting out and about over the next few months meeting the teams and customers who are at the heart of this fantastic business. “This is such an important time for our customers, both retail and business, who are looking to us to support them through the challenging times ahead. I have been struck by how committed everyone is across the bank to be able to provide that help. “We have a big agenda ahead of us - fostering innovation, digitising our services and continuing to evolve as a sustainable and responsible bank. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to build on the fantastic work Nathan has done over the last eight years. I want to ensure the bank continues to go from strength to strength, delivering on its purpose - I can’t wait to get started.”
We're proud to be supporting new research from Business in the Community – The ‘Who Cares?’ report highlights the impact of unequal caring responsibilities and how we as organisations and individuals can do more to improve support and achieve gender equality. Commenting on the research, our HR Director and Member of the BITC Gender Leadership Team, Anouska Ramsay, said: "At Santander we want to be the place all our people feel they belong and are supported to succeed. We’re proud to be supporting this research as we continue to help break biases surrounding caring responsibilities, which are such an important part our lives. This research acts as a further call to action and guide as we improve caring support for our people, and develop a culture that encourages all our people to care, inclusive of gender and ethnicity, and creates more equal outcomes for all." Many congratulations to John Collins, our Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer, who has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, for services to financial services during the pandemic. This is great recognition for John and colleagues across Santander UK who have provided crucial support for our customers and communities over the past year. Commenting on his award, John said: “I am privileged to accept this honour as the public face of Santander. This is recognition of the spirit of who we are – by coming together like never before and adapting to this huge shock in how we live our lives, our teams worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to innovate and to be there for those most in need of support from the financial services industry. I see this award as recognition of the tireless efforts made across all teams in the bank and want to dedicate it to my colleagues.”
Santander UK are delighted to have been awarded the Carer Confident Active Award through the Employers for Carers benchmarking scheme, which acknowledges employers who are building a supportive and inclusive workplace where carers are recognised, respected and supported. The Active Award acknowledges our commitment to carers and the support our workplace practices provide to help carers to combine work and their caring responsibilities. We want to do more to support carers. This year our Families & Carers Network is working with our charity partner, Alzheimer’s Society, to help make our support for carers easily accessible through a Carer’s Policy.
