Massive well done to our team of volunteers who recently got stuck in to peatland restoration! We’re proud to be a founding partner of #NetZerowithNature with #NationalParksUK, helping to restore nature and fighting climate change by bringing back UK peatlands, woodlands, wetlands and wild spaces. As part of this partnership, we fund the restoration of peatland in the Cairngorms National Park in Scotland, which our team recently got hands-on experience with. The hands-on tasks included blocking & damming an eroded peat gully to prevent water flow as part of the restoration process, as well as planting sphagnum moss to aid revegetation, prevent exposed peat releasing carbon and helping store carbon efficiently. A fantastic day for all the team that volunteered!

We are pleased to have been supporting Volunteers’ Week. Across the bank, our colleagues are giving their time to volunteer with organisations that assist financial inclusion, social mobility, community support and more. Some of the voluntary activities they are getting involved with include collecting much-needed essential items for the people of Ukraine, delivering educational sessions on money management, digital and work skills to children, as well as helping out with local community initiatives such as at foodbanks. Santander’s Acting Head of Sustainability & Responsible Banking, Fermín Martínez de Hurtado Yela, said: “We have a proud history of supporting volunteering at Santander and are thrilled that our colleagues are getting out once again to support a wide range of worthy causes across the community, contributing to our role as a responsible bank.”
