Pros

Very easy to get a job with.

Cons

The chief exec is a aggressive arrogant bully who shouts and swears. This method of management follows down the line is a similar fashion. 1. Poor salary 2. ZERO wages rises 3. Goal posts constantly changed 4. Bonus withheld and changed constantly 5. Unpaid overtime but expected to work 6. Unpaid stock takes every month 7. Unpaid meetings after work 8. Expected to cover other stores in any location 9. Overfilled double booked diaries 10. Insufficient staffing 11. HUGE volumes of staff leaving 12. Terrible reputation within industry 13. Constant performance management 14. Aggressive sales techniques 15. gross overselling 16. Zero chance of customer getting refunds 17. Outdated computer systems 18. Middle management terrified of not achieving targets and encouraged to fudge figures 19. Accounts constantly on hold 20. Over priced and over sold in every product.

Pros

Working at Optical Express taught me how to work in a high stress environment.

I was 'head-hunted' from another company to work in a senior role at OE. Prior to my signing my employment contract David Moulsdale rolled out the red carpet, I felt I was making the right move. Once I became an employee I soon discovered I had made a HUGE mistake. I found myself working 60-80 hours a week but only being paid for 40 hours. I also had to travel several hundred miles to various stores each week: my contract said I would be reimbursed for travel but frankly Optical Express made sure I just didn't have any time to make the claims. The targets the company sets its Optometrists are unrealistic, gimmicky and very difficult to meet. Each week the Optometrist with the most sales is given an expensive prize which serves to change the clinical focus from what is best for the patient to what costs the patient the most and what is most likely to drive up your sales figures for the week. These targets are in place for Optometrists who work in the Laser clinics and to those who are do not work in Laser clinics which means you are under pressure to push patients to buy the most expensive glasses and have the most expensive Laser treatment even if the patient doesn't need that particular option. David Moulsdale- the man who owns Optical Express, is your boss. He keeps a very close eye on every facet of your productivity and will kick you out in a heartbeat if he's not getting several multiples of what he pays you as weekly revenue from you from the shop floor or consulting room. Forget the patient's needs, the cash in the till at the end of each day is all that matters.

Pros

None whatsoever. If I could give zero stars I would. The other exploited, long-suffering souls that you work alongside and can share a joke with are the only relatively good thing about this terrible company.

Cons

- Terrible pay, long hours (40 hours a week +, with unpaid overtime) - Bank holiday working as standard and two days off for Christmas and New Year - Bare minimum of breaks and holiday allowance - Appalling, bullying management (if you think you already know what micromanagement is like, think again) - Racism, sexism, prejudice, nepotism and homophobia rife at all levels of company - Disgusting attitude towards staff: you're seen as easily replaceable - Little in the way of staff benefits - Poor financial outlook for company (losing money) - Ridiculously high staff turnover because of terrible working environment - Managers who don't know how to manage (especially in the marketing department) - Terrible company reputation amongst suppliers and customers - Extremely questionable business tactics - Blasé attitude to ASA marketing standards and guidelines for cosmetic surgery - No pay rises (unless you're in a senior management position, of course) - A greedy, bullying CEO who uses fear and threats to get his own way Don't believe any of the positive reviews you read about this place. It really is the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to work for.
