We are very proud to announce that our in-house Investments Team have been named 'Investment Team of the Year' at the Insurance Asset Risk Awards 2023. The award recognises the achievements of Wesleyan’s Fund and Property Managers, Analysts, Sustainable Investment Professionals and Investment Communications Staff.
We are so excited to have achieved the Bronze Award for Thrive at Work. To ensure we continue to keep providing the right support and guidance, we have signed up to Thrive at Work: a structured accreditation programme that supports employee health and wellbeing. In 2021, we set ourselves a target to achieve the Bronze Award, and in October 2022, we achieved our goal. By ensuring we have resources to support mental, physical and social wellbeing, and continuously talking about these subjects, we are now aiming for the Gold Award.
With the new year creeping upon us, we have been looking back at all the achievements and progressions we have made in 2022. This year we enhanced our Family Leave policies to give parents the flexibility and support to balance the special role of parenting alongside a fulfilling career. At Wesleyan, we know how important time with family is and we want to ensure our colleagues feel fully supported.
Today, we joined together in Our Birmingham Head Office to mark #internationalmensday. We welcomed discussions led by our very own Wesleyan colleagues and various guest speakers from London Doctors Clinic Group with talks surrounding prostate cancer, men's mental health and male fertility, finished with a Q&A session and tasty smoothies! Today's event had us openly discussing important topics, and we strive to keep the conversation going by creating a safe environment where our colleagues can speak openly about mental & physical health and feel comfortable to ask for help when needed.
We are extremely proud to be providing National Trust with ½ hectare of trees through a £2,500 donation from Wesleyan Foundation. We have partnered with Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) to match their existing donation of ½ hectare of trees to further support National Trusts’ aim of planting and establishing 20 million trees by 2030.
It is up to all of us to look after the world we live in and do what we can to ensure our planet thrives. That is why we will be aligning our sustainability goals with 5 of the key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. By promoting and embedding these development objectives within our practices and culture at Wesleyan, we hope to create a genuine and sustained impact. The key areas we will be focusing on are: Good Health & Wellbeing, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Reduced Inequalities and Climate Action. Our Wesleyan Foundation, Cycle-to-Work Scheme, Wellspace subscriptions and diverse internal network groups are just a handful of examples that reinforce our intent and determination to make Wesleyan a greener and more sustainable company.
We recognise the rising cost of living is affecting many, including our colleagues. Care is at the heart of everything we do which is why we are giving £1,000 to 97% of Wesleyan colleagues (excluding senior roles) this week to help ease the pressures of the cost-of-living crisis. We have also introduced new resources, such as our financial wellbeing hub, discounts at various retailers and financial coaches for our colleagues to utilise. Our CEO, Mario Mazzocchi says: “We know the cost-of-living crisis is impacting our colleagues, customers and our wider communities and we’ve been looking at how we can make a difference on all of these fronts. While this additional support payment for colleagues will not fully mitigate rising food and energy costs, we hope it will go some way to ease the strain.”
We LOVE getting feedback from our employee! here is what one of our colleagues had to say about working at Wesleyan: "Thanks to Wesleyan's approach to smart working, I have made the most of being able to walk my children to school each and every morning. Such a seemingly small thing, but something that brings a huge smile to my face. I've also been able to attend their school plays, first ever swimming lessons, and been there to support when they have been ill or upset. More importantly, I've been more PRESENT and in the moment."
As a mutual we are proud of being able to focus on our members, customers, colleagues and communities without the distraction of shareholders. So, this winter we want to provide an extra financial boost to a selected number of charities through Wesleyan Foundation because we know things are hard right now due to rising costs. Our colleagues and members are able to nominate a charity that is close to their heart that also align to five United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. All nominated organisations will be in with a chance of receiving a share of £100,000 to further support their incredible work. We'll be announcing the selected charities in December
We’re delighted to introduce the new co-chairs of our fabulous Open Minds Group (OMG), Craig Smith and Ben Morgan. Our new co-chairs will be heading up LGBTQ+ events (including the upcoming Birmingham Pride march) and will provide support for our employees. The OMG network brings together employees who identify as LGBTQ+and LGBTQ+ allies to drive a fully inclusive environment at Wesleyan where we can all be comfortable with who we are. At Wesleyan, we value our employees’ uniqueness. We strive to make sure that every colleague feels welcome, supported and able to be themselves, every day at Wesleyan.
