I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Cafeteria closes up, leaves free coffee at end of the day. It is a great learning experience for dealing with less-than-ideal circumstances with inexperienced coworkers.

    Cons

Lockheed Martin Canada is the worst company I have worked at. The people with the authority over projects make decisions without any good practices or engineering analysis. The pay is not competitive to say the least and being popular with coworkers is valued over technical excellence. Requirements do not exist and the agile methodology has been distorted to some abomination of project management that hardly manages the project at all. Be prepared to be the only contributor who hits his deadlines, Becauses milestones or satisfying the customer do not matter here.

    Advice to Management

There is no saving grace to the management. Bad practice is left unchecked with people commenting out test suites when they break and "Unit Testing" is not considered worthy of allocating budget towards.

There is no testing and it is the most disappointing aspect of the job; when I started the person in charge had a phenomenal understanding of good engineering process. New management took over and proceeded to steamroll the project right into the rotten mess of a codebase is. Do not expect to learn anything that is valuable from a technical standpoint here.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good start to a career, great experiences in medium-large scale programs, initial graduate salary is okay. Lots of brilliant engineers to learn from. Flexi-time is very good (when project deadlines are not around)

    Cons

Lack of actual training (learning on the job is expected). Pay rises are not great at early stages in career. Pay discrepancies between

    Advice to Management

Recognize the potential of all staff earlier on. Pay rises for junior staff is crucial to keeping the staff around. The pay gap between level 1 and 3 is far too large.

    Pros

Solid company to work for with lots of infrastructure and support, strong brand.

    Cons

Stuck in the past, rigid processes and procedures

    Advice to Management

Modernise the company, look to the new wave of successful brands

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Most co-workers were great. Interesting job. Pay is decent. Lots of different locations and programs to choose from.

    Cons

Unethical hiring practices. Req"s are written for specific people, buried in the system, and held open for the minimum amount of time. People are hired and promoted based on who they know, not actual qualifications. Ethics guidelines in general do not seem to apply to management.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Overall a great company to work for.
    -Interesting Tech
-Amazing 401k (up to 10%, 4% (depending on when hired) match if you put in 8%, and LM puts in up to 6% into another 401k company stock fund)
-3 Weeks Vacation and 5 Days Sick/General PTO
    - Flexible Work from Home
    - Laid back atmosphere
    - Talented and great people
    - HSA account
    - Currently, defense is solid
    - Managers are very Professional

    Cons

    - Many cases, outdated tools
    - Management is old school, promotions are mainly years of service over effort and accomplishments.
    - A lot of decisions are manager discrepancy
    - Bonuses are now only for Sr Level Employees or above (they think this will retain employees, I beg to differ).

    Advice to Management

Hard to get visibility and promotions if Systems Engineers are interfacing with customers all the times.
Make On the Job training possible (but this is more of a Gov employer issue in general)
If you give out bonuses, don't decrease raises

    Pros

LM is a HUGE company consisting of many different business units and sub units. As a company they're impressive in that they offer such a wide variety of possibilities for the career minded individual.

    Cons

Corporate bureaucracy may come with the territory.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

They offer reimbursement for travel associated with relocating for the summer (to and from). They also give $850/month for housing.

Very good on boarding process and team inclusion

    Cons

Low pay compared to most other software internships. Strict time keeping policies. Tours and anything not specifically work for your team is generally unpaid and intern events are on your own dime.

    Advice to Management

The intern program is not very competitive with traditional tech companies and leaves a lot to be desired.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Job is relevant, opportunity for experience is amazing, nice work culture.

    Cons

The initial start was being integrated right into all of the work that the team is currently on so its a bit much in the beginning but thats why the hire people who they feel a confident enough to contribute in any way they can and quickly learn what is going on.

    Advice to Management

Training for an initial assignment so new hires aren't sort of lost and playing catch up too much.
