About the Role
CIPL is seeking an AI, Data & Digital Policy Specialist to join our team in our London office. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of privacy and data policy, AI, safety, cybersecurity, and broader digital policy developments, and contributing to the development of best practices, thought leadership, and practical solutions for privacy, data, and digital policy, law, and compliance.
The role will collaborate closely with CIPL teams in Brussels and Washington, DC, as well as with senior leadership, to advance CIPL’s global policy priorities and initiatives. This includes supporting work on digital regulation and legal implementation, as well as developing organizational governance frameworks and compliance best practices across sectors.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Monitor emerging technologies, as well as global trends and regulatory developments, across privacy, data, AI, safety, cybersecurity, and the broader digital policy landscape.
Support the development and execution of CIPL projects across privacy, data, AI, safety, cybersecurity, and broader digital policy and regulation, including:
AI, Data Governance, and Accountability
– Accountability-based governance and risk management for data, privacy, and AI
– Benchmarking and evaluating the effectiveness of governance frameworks
Emerging Technologies and Innovation
– Agentic AI and other transformative and emerging technologies
– Leveraging AI to support compliance with digital regulation, privacy, and cybersecurity
– Privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs)
– Data ethics and responsible innovation
User Trust and Safeguards
– Children’s privacy and online safety
– Transparency and user control
Global Data Policy and Regulatory Strategy
– Cross-border data transfers, data localization, and digital sovereignty
– Global and regional regulatory developments (EU, UK, US—state and federal, Canada, Latin America, India, Asia-Pacific)
Produce high-impact written outputs, including white papers, regulatory submissions, benchmarking reports, issue briefs, articles, and blog posts.
Contribute to policy development and practical implementation, including:
Translating legal and regulatory requirements into operational best practices
Supporting organizations in building compliance frameworks across sectors
Developing tools, playbooks, and governance models
Support the planning and delivery of CIPL events, including developing agendas, content, and presentations.
Required Qualifications, Background & Skills
Advanced degree (e.g., LL.M., Master of Public Policy, or PhD).
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a law firm, professional services firm, think tank, trade association, government, or regulatory agency.
Strong knowledge of global developments in privacy, data, AI, safety, cybersecurity, and broader digital policy and regulation.
Experience drafting regulatory submissions, white papers, best practice/benchmarking reports, or articles on privacy, data, AI, safety, cybersecurity, and broader digital policy and regulation.
Superb analytical, research, and writing skills, including the ability to translate complex policy developments into practical guidance.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience engaging senior executives, policymakers, regulators, and global stakeholders.
Demonstrated interest in and understanding of technology, including AI systems, data ecosystems, and digital infrastructure.
Exposure to or familiarity with technical concepts (e.g., AI systems, data architectures, cybersecurity principles).
Interest in emerging/transformative technologies and their regulatory implications.
Entrepreneurial mindset, proactive attitude, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced international environment.
