One of two schools in the College, the School of Arts and Creative Industries is home to subject disciplines including Games Design and Development, Animation, Architecture, Automotive and Transport Design, Design Management, Fashion, Fine Art, Games Arts, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Digital Media, Graphic Design, and Product Design.
We are looking to appoint an ambitious and enthusiastic Assistant professor (Teaching) in Esports Production and Gaming to our Creative Technologies team. With an enviable reputation for leading innovative pedagogy in this field, our Creative Technologies programmes are distinctive for links with industry, an array of projects with external partners in a range of sectors, and a playful, innovative approach to curriculum design and delivery.
Central to this role is teaching industry practices and imparting key design, development and product realisation techniques as well as industry-specific, and transferable skills. As an Assistant Professor (Teaching) you will be proactive in motivating and supporting students across the Creative Technologies cluster, with a particular focus on our Esports Production and Gaming, from undergraduate to postgraduate level. Experience working in Esports production and/ or games design in the context of Esports is essential, focusing on a creative and experimental approach that transcends disciplines and sectors.
Candidates must have strong and up to date awareness of developments within the broader creative technologies industry and be enthused to work in innovative and experimental ways across our suite of under- and postgraduate courses, developing directional and globally competitive portfolios of work with our students, and enhancing the visibility of the suite of courses through contributing to promotional material.
Candidates must be confident to engage with physical and online teaching methods, practices, tools, and an integrated and at times cross-disciplinary approach to studio teaching and learning. The achievement and satisfaction of our students is our top priority; candidates must be qualified (or be willing to become qualified) to teach and assess at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Our successful candidate will be dynamic, keen to continue/ build an academic profile in creative arts education and experienced in the field of creative technologies, Esports, games, media, and immersive technologies. You will be actively engaged in the broad area of creative technologies research, design and development and must have a proven track record of applying Esports production and specialist games development and design skills within the creative sector. Applicants should have extensive relevant professional experience or be qualified at least to Master’s Level and have a good understanding of the Esports, games and broader creative technologies industry, innovative practice and the role of the creative industries in contemporary culture and to UK Higher Education. Experience of education innovation would be advantageous.
You will be able to demonstrate high level digital fluency and a continuing engagement with professional, scholarly and pedagogic development - those without a teaching qualification will be required to undertake Coventry University’s PGCHE or secure a HEA fellowship. Within the context of our work as a global education provider, you will bring a high level of cultural awareness with experience of learners’ cultural differences and expectations. Conscientiousness and agility in your teaching style is essential, with the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds.
