In this role as Director of Product Management for our mainframe team, you will own and drive the product strategy, roadmap, and business outcomes for the AMI Operations product suite, delivering a cohesive portfolio that helps customers observe, optimize, and resolve operational issues through modern user experiences, deep mainframe domain capabilities, and enterprise integration.
You will lead product direction across core AMI Ops solution areas which include:
- Monitoring & Observability experiences (modern dashboards, subsystem-aware views, cross-domain correlation).
- Drive capabilities that improve diagnosis and guided resolution (e.g., plain-language explanations and next-step recommendations).
- Automation & Console Management, including API-enabled and orchestration-ready operational workflows.
- Telemetry streaming and enterprise pipeline integration (e.g., data streaming into observability platforms and OTEL enablement).
- Portfolio initiatives such as Capacity and Discovery modernization as part of the broader AMI Ops roadmap focus.
Special focus will be to lead the AMI Operations evolution toward mainframe observability and AIOps platform by:
-
Expanding observability and visualization, improving time-to-diagnosis and time-to-resolution outcomes.
- Infusing AI assistance into core workflows (explanations, recommended actions, and safe automation), progressing toward early agentic capabilities.
- Enabling open ecosystem telemetry through standards-based integration including Open Telemetry (OTEL) so mainframe operations can participate in enterprise observability platforms.
Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC's and your own success:
1) Strategy, Roadmap, and Portfolio Outcomes
-
Define and communicate AMI Ops strategic priorities and multi-release roadmap, aligning investment to measurable customer and business outcomes
-
Drive portfolio direction toward a unified, integrated Ops experience that supports customers’ operational KPIs
- Lead prioritization across themes including observability buildout, OTEL-enabled data fabric, early agentic capabilities, and capacity/discovery initiatives.
2) Team Leadership & Product Management Excellence
- Lead, develop, and coach a team of Product Managers responsible for AMI Ops product areas (monitoring, automation, telemetry, capacity, etc.).
-
Establish clear ownership, accountability, and operating cadence across the team (roadmaps, quarterly planning, delivery milestones).
-
Drive product management excellence, including problem definition, prioritization, pricing/packaging alignment, and outcome measurement.
-
Mentor team members on customer engagement, storytelling, and executive communication to elevate overall PM effectiveness.
-
Partner with R&D and design leadership to ensure strong collaboration, predictable delivery, and continuous improvement.
3) AI-Augmented Operations (kept generic, but real)
-
Champion an approach where AI is infused into the Ops experience - improving operator effectiveness and reducing reliance on deep tribal knowledge.
- Own product outcomes for AI-driven capabilities such as faster diagnosis and resolution via explainability and recommended next steps, and progression toward monitored/safe automation.
- Partner across the portfolio to adopt platform-level enablers for agentic workflows.
4) Observability & OTEL / Open Standards Enablement
-
Lead the strategy to extend enterprise observability to the mainframe by embracing open standards and enabling ingestion/export of telemetry into modern observability ecosystems.
- Drive roadmap alignment for OTEL telemetry support (metrics first, with broader signals over time) in ways that are performant, secure, and easy to adopt.
- Position AMI Ops as a key participant in cross-system correlation and root-cause workflows that span mainframe and distributed environments.
5) Execution Leadership (Cross-Functional)
-
Lead a cross-functional operating cadence with Engineering, UX, Support, Sales, and Customer Success to deliver roadmap commitments and customer outcomes.
- Ensure product readiness across delivery—modern UX, dashboards, telemetry pipelines, automation APIs, and integration points—while balancing innovation and operational quality.
6) Customer, Market, and Competitive Leadership
-
Develop and drive market-facing narrative: how AMI Ops differentiates as an integrated observability and AIOps platform, including competitive take-out positioning and modernization value.
- Drive customer adoption and value realization of key capabilities (including increased adoption of products and broader engagement with observability/AI capabilities).
- Identify and pursue ecosystem partnerships that strengthen enterprise observability and operational workflows (e.g., service management and observability platforms).
