I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent apprenticeship at their own training facilities. Very high standard of work as well as brilliant support if ever required

    Cons

Lots of red tape. By that I mean endless amounts of health and safety paperwork before starting the job and too much pressure to upsell new products

I worked at British Gas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Well paid, opportunity for development, good people

    Cons

Constant restructuring and with the finance transformation program while there is a goal there is no specifics or leadership of how to get there. Lots of 'other peoples problems' and 'computer says no' attitude.

    Advice to Management

Clear communication in the specifics of change. Make people feel that hard work is rewarded

I have been working at British Gas full-time

    Pros

Good work life balance. Quality over quantity, safety is the main focus and that is clear. Good dispatch relationship and supportive direct manager but no interaction further up than that. Lower pay but full package with holidays and sick pay very good.

    Cons

Poor bonus structure. Too much emphasis on the unimportant aspects of the jobs such as button pushing and van tracking, once a lone worker job with minimal supervision but more and more ways in which they can monitor you. Lost trust in employees. Also limited progression routes as business is no longer expanding and is trying to streamline.

I worked at British Gas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary/Package was decent - Backed up with correct procedures to ensure you where paid appropriately and if made redundant where compensated accordingly

    Cons

Work ethics/Clique management/jobs for the boys culture/Look after their own even when the individuals are doing as good a job as others

    Advice to Management

Reward on quality and effort - Do not be blinded by loyalty

I have been working at British Gas full-time

    Pros

Team members and managers are generally great to get along with. Opportunity to have great conversations with our customers. Best reward scheme I have ever been a part of in a contact centre. Company really look after you when you are off sick.

    Cons

Certain targets are unrealistic and some internal company procedures can be really stressful. Also no real opportunity for career progression.

    Advice to Management

Understand that different employees have different skillsets and utilise these proactively for the benefit of the campaign instead of having everyone doing the exact same thing which creates sub-optimal results. Garner a more thorough understanding of your employees and what drives them allow more freedom to initiate change from the ground up; not the top-down.
