I worked at Expedia Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They understand the value of people's own time, and the cost of overworking people, so they don't expect you to stay late.

    Cons

Not the fastest moving company - things require a lot of stakeholders.

Work-Life Balance is great. The scale is good enough. Food (India-Gurgaon) is the Best.

    Pros

    - Safe haven for women to commit adultery. The HR would even protect you, if you're a woman. They reward women for having kids and have a special day care allowance just for women employees to weaken the Indian men. - Free food, cab and salary that you don't have to do anything to earn. You may be happy to get it but the other side of the story is Barry Diller and top management fighting for undue control of the... company. Check the lawsuits. - Easy to go places by maintaining good relations with people. It's a company thriving on relationships, from relationships with hotel chains to establish a bullying position in the market to clever relations with board of directors by Barry, to maintain monopoly over the company. It's a game of conning customers and partners at large.

    Cons

    - They will violate your trust and spoil your career. Forget about what they promise to you or tell you in the job description. Everything changes and preventing your career from damage is your responsibility. - Bad work and undue exploitation. You may only be required to do support or maintenance work / activities and they will force you to go on-call without any additional pay. You would be forced to fill time... sheets of 40 hours per week when actually you might also be working on the weekends and late nights. These shameless Americans don't shy from violating your personal space and time and the sad part is they are supported to do so and allowed to do so by Indian counterparts and the useless HR department. They have an ethics portal to report incidents but honestly it's used to safeguard management and you may be covertly harrassed and retaliated for reporting incidents. It's another veil of deception. - You may be made to sit idle and at the end of the year be told that it's your fault that you didn't do anything, even if you may have wanted to. Managers are often women and incompetent, who cleverly put blame on the resources to shrug off responsibility. At times, this seems like a deliberate tactic to waste the valuable time and skills of Indian resources to prevent them from getting ahead or becoming competent. Whatever they may say, Trump or the myriad of corporates from the US don't want India to become better or more competent. They play it very cleverly. - The many brands and remote locations are a facade. Forget International movement, you would be treated as an outsider at best, for other internal opportunities. And despite your merit, it's your manager who has the final say and feedback on you for your next move in career. Make sure that you want to work for the brand that you are hired for. Expedia internally is called BEX - Brand Expedia and again they may write Expedia on paper but make you work for another brand. - Nepotism and rampant bias against men. - Bad people. Bad culture. Not an engineering company. - Stopped taking feedback for anyone above your immediate manager. Another malpractice. The chain above might be sitting idle.

    Advice to Management

Minimize the role and say of middle management, especially in determining someone's next career move or growth. Focus on engineering excellence and competence without being sold to McKinsey's gender diversity agenda. Avoid consulting and consultants at all cost.

    Pros

-Good work life balance -Opportunities everywhere to make small impact -Good Benefits

    Cons

-little big to make big impact -influencing so many teams is a challenge, if you could do it you will be in the top -Senior is like a plateau after which you should fight for good opportunities and network to be become principal (most cream projects are filtered at Head quarters). You can't excel in what you do and become a Principal
