The Glassdoor Q2 2015 UK Employment Confidence Survey revealed that two thirds of employees (66%) don’t believe or don’t know if they will receive a pay rise in the next year. But with pay and benefits a big piece of the equation for any job seeker when deciding where to work, where are UK employees most satisfied with their pay and benefits packages? To help, Glassdoor put together its annual report identifying the Top 25 UK Companies for Compensation & Benefits in 2015.

The top 10 is dominated by tech, business consulting and IT firms, with the highest rated1 based in London – Facebook (#1, 4.7 rating), Jive Software in Reading (#2, 4.7) and MediaMath (#3, 4.6), also London.

Northern Cities Such As Bolton, Manchester and Wigan Are Represented

While there has been a big boom in tech in the UK, the sector is not purely London-centric as might be expected. More than half (56%) of the top 25 companies for pay and benefits have offices outside of the Capital. Other UK business hubs benefiting from this growth include; Bolton (AO #5), Maidenhead (Informatica #6), Marlow Buckinghamshire (Softcat #7), Staines (Salesforce #10), Manchester (Peninsula #15), Abingdon, Oxfordshire (Newton Europe #18) and Wigan (NetBuilder #20). With general cost of living, property prices and rental costs likely to be cheaper than in London, it seems that some of Britain’s major regions are now offering serious and reasonable alternatives for office locations.

Other industries featured in the top 25 list include: tourism - Holiday Extras based in Kent (#14, 4.4 rating) - and global food and beverage company, Mars (#22, 4.2) with main offices in Slough, but with offices all over the UK.

So, we’ve identified that not all the UK’s best companies for compensation and benefits are necessarily based in London, but is it only about the salaries for UK employees or are they swayed by other benefits? Through Glassdoor reviews, we discovered that (for some) it is indeed about making the most amount of money, but others told us it’s also about perks, such as health care for family, free food, a generous holiday allowance, computer game consoles in the office and even spas.

Here’s what employees of the top 5 ranked companies have to say more specifically:

Smartest people to work with - Great benefits (free food for breakfast, lunch, dinner) - healthy work environment and an amazing working culture.” Facebook, Internet Marketing Analyst (London)

“Highly skilled and driven team with great team support and flexible working hours. Brilliant working environment. Excellent salary and benefits. Sense of fun.”Jive Software, Professional Services (Reading)

“MediaMath offers all the cool perks expected within the industry such as free food and drink, cool working environment and social events but it is more the empowerment you get offered.”Media Math employee (London)

“Good salary: the associate/partners structure allows the employee to get a really good deal.”Equal Experts, Partner (London)

“The benefits are excellent with the addition of a great office environment including a Starbucks and Spa.”AO employee (Bolton)
