    No Opinion of CEO

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great work life balance. Ability to work from home with certain positions. Conducts internal surveys on how the company can improve overall AND actually considers as well as enacts widely agreed upon changes. Opportunity to earn bonuses.

    Cons

Little to no training. While a lot positions depend on industry knowledge, training regarding specific organizational structure and policies is needed. A little more transparency as to corporate changes. Understand company policy is not to comment on rumors so as not to cause panic and a mass exodus but having to find out about the possibility of major org changes yields that result anyway.

    Advice to Management

More communication. Better and clearer procedural practices/org practices.

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Decent benefits, respectful management, industry-standard pay for MFLCS, and a company that strongly demonstrates care for the well-being of its employees. I love the work, and I am glad to be a part of the valuable mission of supporting active-duty soldiers & their families with supportive, non-medical counseling. A huge pro is that there is NO micro-managing, and as long as the work is done correctly,... there are no issues. There has never been any problem with pay, benefits, and the onboarding has been flawless! I had one supervisor that will always stand out in my professional experience, in a positive way, and am grateful to have gotten to work with her. Extremely supportive, a great educator, and highly informed. I enjoyed genuine mutual respect and collaboration. It has been and continues to be, valuable & fulfilling use of my skills, interests, talents, and abilities.

    Cons

The least expensive health insurance plan has extremely high deductibles. It is very difficult to use allotted PTO, due to the nature of the contract/assignment. If you are working at an overseas assignment, and need to go back stateside, getting approval for PTO use is virtually impossible.

    Advice to Management

Since this is a health insurance company, perhaps consider lowering the deductibles for your basic health plan. Please find a way to provide MFLCs use PTO. It is literally impossible to take a vacation, beyond a long weekend, while on assignment. Being oversees makes this very challenging. Good job on being so pro-active in caring for employees health! Thank you.

    Pros

You work from home and there is no micromanaging.

    Cons

The assignment is impossible to complete. Too many member assigned and too many side projects as well.

I have been working at Magellan Health full-time

    Pros

Flexible schedule, no micromanaging, minimal and easy documentation, freedom to work with clients in various locations, opportunities to travel overseas. Most people who do this job can accommodate with a private practice or teletherapy

    Cons

Adult positions are limited, there can be very slow days since your schedule isn't quite documented. Supervisors ask for a set schedule, but it is not realistic. Military contract so at the end of the contract many people were left unemployed. No room really to move up the ladder.

I worked at Magellan Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Employment was somewhat better before they sold the company to Magellan Health. Magellan Health has a horrible HR Department!! This job is more about the participants budgets, computer and plan details than it is about the services and rapport with participants. This job is great for someone who really enjoys and is proficient with plenty of math. Nice concept, but many flaws in this program. The pay and amount... of benefits offered are good.

    Cons

Magellan Health has a horrible HR Department!! This job is more about the participants budgets, computer and plan details than it is about the services and rapport with participants. The Department of Health Services takes many months to approve a simple budget amendment for added services to improve a participant's health and safety. The consultants take the brunt for most of the issues for the program. ... Caseloads are too high for quality and it is mostly about putting out fires. Nice concept, but many flaws in this program. Work/life balance is difficult with overtime needed and working at home. Not enough training time before working alone.

    Advice to Management

Employees need more input regarding being changed onto a different team before being moved. Lower case loads for improved quality. Most competitor IRIS Programs in the area do have lower case loads than this company. Participants need more of a voice in flaws in the program. It was very difficult to attempt to make a career move into the certified screener position. HR made it impossible and this should be an... easier process.
