A recent Glassdoor survey(1) among UK adults highlighted that offering good work-life balance is a key factor for enticing job seekers at application stage. When asked what would make Brits more likely to apply for a job, nearly half of UK workers/job seekers (48 percent) cited a convenient commute followed closely by offering a good work-life balance (47 percent). These factors were both seen as more important to employees than company culture (35 percent) and the state of the company’s finances (25 percent). In light of these new findings, and, to help you in your job search, Glassdoor wanted to find out exactly which companies offered the best work-life balance across the UK. The job seeker preferences survey was conducted online within the UK by The Harris Poll on behalf of Glassdoor between 7-9 May, 2018 among 715 UK adults ages 18+ who are employed full-time/part-time/self-employed, or not employed but looking for work. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated. Read the full study here.

Methodology: For a company to be considered in Glassdoor’s report, Highest Rated Companies for Work-Life Balance 2018, a minimum of 80 work-life balance ratings must have been submitted on Glassdoor by UK-based employees as of 12/7/18. For reporting simplicity, ratings are rounded to one decimal place though actual calculations extend beyond the thousandth decimal place to determine rank. Academic institutions such as universities are excluded from these rankings.
