We're recruiting a Backend Developer to join our tech team. You'll work closely with our Front-end developer to build and support the platform's database, backend logic, and integrations
Location: UK/Europe - Remote / Flexible
Type: Early-stage startup opportunity
Compensation: Equity-based initially, with a clear pathway to a paid position as the company grows

About the Role:
We're looking for someone strong on the backend to help us build the core systems and data structures that power our platform. Familiarity with front-end development and design is a bonus.
Duties
- Design, build, and maintain our database structure to support core platform features and user data
- Set up and manage authentication and access control, ensuring users can only access their own data
- Build and maintain backend logic and APIs to support the platform's core features
- Integrate third-party services as needed (e.g. payments, email, notifications)
- Collaborate closely with our front-end developer to connect the interface to backend data
- Support basic front-end tasks (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) when needed
- Help troubleshoot and maintain the platform post-launch
- Contribute to decisions on tools, structure, and technical direction.
Requirements
- Strong SQL and relational database design skills (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Experience with backend-as-a-service platforms such as Supabase, Firebase, or similar (or strong Postgres experience and willingness to learn Supabase)
- Solid understanding of authentication, authorization, and access control best practices
- Comfortable working with APIs and connecting frontend to backend systems
- Working knowledge of JavaScript
- Familiarity with Git/version control
- Basic HTML/CSS knowledge (helpful, not primary requirement)
- Comfortable working in an early-stage, fast-moving environment with a small team
- Genuine interest in sustainability, permaculture, eco-living, and/or conscious lifestyles
- Highly proficient in English
- Permanent right to work in the UK, or eligible to work remotely from Europe
