Job Purpose / Overview
Interface Management is recognised as a cornerstone of integration on major projects. The Interface Management Team (IMT) is responsible for managing the interfaces between the three main programmes (Civil Works – Nuclear Island – Conventional Island & Balance of Plant) in view of assuring the delivery of scope safely and to defined schedule, cost and quality parameters.
Interface Management operates within the existing Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) structure and in line with the Area Management Terms of Reference (TOR). The programmes retain full accountability for the EPCC lifecycle within each programme, while the IMT retains the ability to consolidate programme-level interface information to gain insights and assurance for the benefit of the overall SZC Project.
Reporting to the Interface Oversight Project Manager, the Interface Engineer will coordinate and implement the interface management plan.
Principal Accountabilities
Reporting to the Interface Oversight Project Manager, the Interface Engineer has overall responsibility for implementing and maintaining the Interface Management Plan throughout the project life cycle by performing the following actions:
- Implementing project specific Interface Management processes with key accountability for Interface Milestone Definition Documents (MDDs) and the Delivery Interface Register (DIR).
- Define, document, and manage interface requirements between different Programmes (i.e. Civils, Nuclear Island and Conventional Island) and other stakeholders.
- Progress monitoring related to Interface Management.
- Ensuring that the schedule requirements are maintained and identifying / initiating any change requests that may arise out of the Interface requirements.
- Ensuring that Interface issues are managed and closed.
- Be an integral link within the Interface Management Plan, monitoring and co-ordinating interfaces throughout, and supporting the SZC Programmes and SZC Project Management Office (PMO) to remain aligned.
- Produce and maintain appropriate, standardised documents and provide regular assurance reporting to the Programme management and other stakeholders (reflecting key issues, resolutions, and performance to enable them to effectively understand risks and impacts related to Interfaces on the project).
- Coordination within Risk Management Team for alignment on interface risks.
- Ensure a collaborative approach is maintained across teams.
- Facilitation for effective planning and efficient delivery of interface management, ensuring all issues are clearly understood by the owning teams and addressed, and appropriate interventions developed and implemented.
- Supporting the Delivery Project Managers (PMs) with interface agreements that deliver ‘best for project’ outcomes whilst ensuring that requirements are strictly adhered to within nuclear safety culture and regulatory frameworks.

Knowledge & Skills
- An understanding of the challenges faced in interface management on large infrastructure/engineering project (or similar).
- On-site experience with knowledge of construction activities, approaches, standards and expectations.
- Good project management skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills within complex infrastructure (or similar) projects.
- Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills. Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks
- The ability to build, maintain and manage key stakeholder relationships, addressing their diverse expectations and potentially conflicting agendas, fostering their optimal engagement and contribution to the development and implementation of effective strategies and plans to manage stakeholders.
- General proficiency with common software tools i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc.
- Use of innovative thinking to overcome challenges and implement solutions which minimise both disruption to third party and to effective project delivery.
- Understanding and communicating complex technical and commercial issues to the satisfaction of key stakeholders.
- General professional qualities such as accuracy, attention to detail, tenacity, result-oriented, the ability to work well within a team, Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently and be proactive.
- Adaptability and flexibility in covering a range of roles within the Interface Management team.
- Knowledge of risk management processes and good understanding of impact on key project milestones/drivers.
- Exceptional organisational and communication/interpersonal skills, capable of navigating complex technical and regulatory challenges within various levels of the organisation.
- Discretion – Confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
Qualifications & Experience
- Technical related degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering.
- 3 to 5yrs+ experience managing interface issues or in a related technical role on a large infrastructure/engineering project (or similar)
- On-site experience with good knowledge of construction activities, approaches, standards and expectations (preferably within Nuclear projects).
